Framework to Develop New Ministry

As Church Leaders or Staff Members, it is our responsibility to provide a framework for developing new ministry ideas into tangible operations within church settings. A response to new ministry ideas that is simplistic and comprehensive includes church requirements, application, approval process, and requesting a mission statement.

Below are some examples that serve as an introductory template to help ministry ideas succeed in healthy ministry.

Requirements: This procedure applies to any new or existing ministry and organization (programs, groups.) seeking approval, recognition, support, and facility usage at your church. One requirement is that new ministries/organizations must receive the Pastor's approval before holding any meetings or activities at your church. Another requirement would be that the new ministries/organizations be self-funded and show a means of self-funding.

Application: The timing of church life is essential when receiving applications. While one would think to apply anytime, working on request at busy times of the year may be challenging. An example is accepting new ministry applications twice yearly (January and July), which is reviewed in the order received.

Approval Process: Before the Pastor's approval, who is the team or Staff Member that receives and prepares an application? A leadership team or Staff Member could assist the applicant before the Pastor to answer all questions, resolve any issues, and obtain additional support, information, and documentation.

Expectations of all New Ministries/Organizations: The Applicant will be asked to define a goal or mission under the church's overall mission. Are there safe environment requirements for a ministry to operate? This discussion should be a priority, especially if there are minors and vulnerable adults involved.

Does this template fit your aim of helping new ministry grow at your church? Let's partner to make this a reality.
